Video capture

When capturing video with Windows Media Encoder my mouse sticks & is hard to use. Any sugestions appreciated.

I take it you're using Vista... however I couldn't install the Encoder on 5231 or 5270... let me on 5259 but not on those others.
However, if you don't mean Vista and you mean XP, check out the "microsoft.public.windowsxp.video" newsgroup :o)

The encoding could be using too much of your CPU - try setting it's priority to lower than Normal from the Task Manager. ..it'll take longer but you'll be able to do other stuff.

I installed it on 5270 but an error message said it's not compatible with the operating system... it opens and runs when I change its properties to run in compatibility mode...
.... but I haven't done anything with it yet to see if there's any functional issues. -- PapaJohn

Installing the Media Encoder on the latest available Vista beta will tell you it's not compatible with Vista. Meaning it will not work in Vista now (and most probably ever in Vista). To bad I think while I liked it very much myself :-(.

I'd have to check, but I believe that incompatible error is against the WMFSDK redist (not needed on Vista), and that the Encoder itself should actually work... is this not what you're seeing?

If you've access to it, check the MS Vista bugreport database: Report 31216 and 31215. Both do give me the indication that Windows Media Encoder is not Vista compatible. Also ignoring the the warning, making a videocapture fails.

The encoder installs fine. The Incompatible warning is against the WMFDist, which is being correctly blocked as it should not install to Vista as later functionality is already present.
